I got into DOOM when I was around 16-17? I had watched the content surrounding the mapping contests hosted and streamed by Vargskelethor Joel. Made me fall in love with the community driven spirit of the original games, but I didn’t really have a PC to jump onboard and map away. I settled for enjoying the first two titles on the family Xbox. Life changing. Felt like I had ascended to a new class of human upon beating Thy Flesh Consumed. Fuck American McGee. I love American McGee. From there, I devoured DOOM 2016 and eagerly anticipated the newly announced ETERNAL. In 2020, I had saved enough money from my first job to build my own PC (I am currently typing this from said PC). I tried getting into mapping with my friend*. I didn’t finish my map, and he had finished his. I began streaming under another account and channel name, and I had sort of dropped Doom a bit from there. A bit afterwards, I stopped streaming and life kind of moved on from there. Things went in different directions, and I became less and less interested in the community and games as a whole. I’m back. Thankfully. It feels like I had been away from my true love. I hope the community will take me in over time. I will try to keep up with it, make content and mingle with some cool people.
